The name of the wine, Mancura, is a reference to the Andean condor. A species of South-American vulture that can reach a wing span of over 3 metres. It is the national symbol of many South-American countries, thought to be guarding the country.
The wine industry in Chile has developed spectacularly during the last 25 years. Where first there were average wines made on a very small scale, barely exported, now most of the wines can compete with the international top and almost 75% of the total harvest is exported. Morandé is a textbook example of these developments. Pable Morandé is regarded the discoverer of the Casablanca valley as a quality-wine country, especially for white wines. He is a pioneer in the field of new techniques to give the wines an even better taste. A few years ago a new winery has been established paired with an incredible restaurant and most wine lovers visiting Chile know where to find Morandé. The striking thing about Morandés wines is the particularly favourable price-quality ratio; each wine offers great quality for the relatively affordable price. The wines are always flawless and perfect representatives of the grape variety they are made of. When wines mature on wood the tones of the wood are well dosed and never dominating. Pablo Morandé says: ‘Wine is made of grapes and not of oak trees…’. Because Morandés balances the composition of his wines with finesse and harmony, they lend themselves particularly well for fine dining.
